I can imagine that... It's gotta be disorienting if it's not voluntary. Even knowing about other worlds, waking up here was still an experience for me.

Still, you made it out, right?

[prosecutory]

I was supposed to return home after the war. Instead, I wound up here.

[He sighs in exasperation.]

... That really sucks, but hey, you've managed it once! You can do it again, right? You've just gotta hang in there.

[Positive thinking!!]

[prosecutory]

[He'll try this so-called positive thinking, fine. Haaaaah.]

Anyway, why do you investigate other worlds? What do you look for?

[gaian]

Well, we typically survey the land—gather any kind of info we can. Scholars and researchers have a lot of interest in what we figure out or bring back, and there's an economical factor in things too... but I couldn't tell you too much about all that. My duties fall under more of the area of dealing with otherworldly threats.

Generally, though, our main interest is this one world that... well, long story short, the humans of my home used to live there, so surveying it gives us the opportunity to uncover records of our history.

[prosecutory]

So the humans' ancestors traveled from that world...to the world you call home?

[He's curious about how that happened. That's nigh impossible where he comes from, though apparently it's not as impossible.]

Yeah, that's the gist of it. The circumstances of why are a long story, but Lucius—ah, that'd be the former god of the Gate—opened the path for them.

[prosecutory]

And that path has remained open since? Is that how paths to other worlds were opened as well?

[gaian]

[It's strange having to explain this, given that it's all fairly common knowledge in Elgaia, but Karl's used to being the resident Exposition Guy, so.]

Something like that. There've been cases in history where gates were opened from other worlds without Lucius's permission, using some other criteria I don't know much about, but for the most part... at least on my world's end, we move through the Gate based on the controlling god's permission.

[prosecutory]

That's...very interesting. [Who would've thought that he, the Only Sane Lawyer, would be fascinated by the concept of opening paths across worlds?

He foresees more conversations with this guy in the future, so...]
